ICE or Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a bureau of the Department of Homeland Security, created on March 1, 2003. ICE enforces immigration and customs laws and works to protect the U.S. against terrorist attacks. ICE achieves its goals by targeting illegal immigrants, particularly those people, money,  and materials that support terrorism and other criminal activities. The HSI Division of ICE Detective work is a big part of what ICE does. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that is charged with investigating and gathering intelligence on a wide range of criminal activities, including immigration offenses. HSI gathers the evidence that makes the cases against criminal operations. The agency has some of the top detectives and information analysts in the federal government. In recent years, HSI agents have investigated human smuggling and other human rights violations, art theft, trafficking, visa fraud, drug smuggling, arms dealing, gang activities, white-collar crimes, money laundering, cybercrimes, counterfeit money and prescription drug sales, import/export activity, pornography, and blood-diamond dealing. Formerly known as the ICE Office of Investigations, HSI has about 6,500 agents and is the largest investigative division in Homeland Security, ranking second to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S. government. HSI also has strategic enforcement and security capabilities with officers who perform paramilitary-type duties similar to police SWAT teams. These Special Response Team units are used during high-risk operations and have provided security even during the aftermaths of earthquakes and hurricanes. Much of the work HSI agents do is in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies at the state, local and federal levels. ICE and the H-1B Program The H-1B visa program is popular with both political parties in Washington but it also can be challenging for U.S. immigration officials to ensure that participants are following the law. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) devotes considerable resources trying to rid the H-1B program of fraud and corruption. The visa is designed to allow U.S. businesses to temporarily employ foreign workers with specialized skills or expertise in fields such as accounting, engineering or computer science. Sometimes businesses don’t play by the rules, however. In 2008, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services concluded that 21 percent of H-1B visa applications contained fraudulent information or technical violations. Federal officials have since put in more safeguards to ensure that the visa applicants comply with the law and accurately represent themselves. In 2014, USCIS approved 315,857 new H-1B visas and H-1B renewals, so there is plenty of work for federal watchdogs, and ICE investigators, in particular, to do. A Case of Visa Fraud in Texas A case in Texas is a good example of the work ICE does in monitoring the program. In November 2015, after a six-day trial in Dallas before U.S. District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn, a federal jury convicted two brothers of felony visa fraud and abuse of the H-1B program. Two brothers Atul Nanda, 46, and his brother, Jiten Jay Nanda, 44, created, established, and ran a computer company located in Carrollton, Texas, which recruited foreign workers with expertise who wanted to work in the U.S. They sponsored H-1B visas, claiming that there were full-time positions with annual salaries for the new workers, but did not, in fact, have actual positions for them at the time they were recruited. Instead, the brothers used the people as a pool of skilled part-time workers. The two were each convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud, one count of conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens, and four counts of wire fraud, according to federal officials. The penalties are severe for visa fraud. The conspiracy to commit visa fraud count carries a maximum statutory penalty of five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens count carries a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Each wire fraud count carries a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

How does Mackay express his feelings for the two cultures he belongs to Free Essays

Claude Mckay was brought up in Jamaica and moved in the to New York in the 1930s. This was during America’s post-economical depression, which meant getting enough money or getting enough money was a very big struggle. It was even a bigger struggle for him to get a good job as an immigrant worker, so he had to settle for menial jobs. We will write a custom essay sample on How does Mackay express his feelings for the two cultures he belongs to? or any similar topic only for you Order Now Although there was not formal and legal ‘segregation’ between black and white as there was in the South, there were areas for only blacks or only whites and prejudice was rife. Mckay became a political and social activist for human rights. In his poems, he evokes a strong sense of his homeland in order to assert the power of its beauty, to seek comfort in the emotional and spiritual warmth he remembers about the place. I SHALL RETURN The title ‘I shall return’ suggests a sense of homesickness and emphasises his determination to go back. The title is a definite statement which may suggest a sense of disappointment or frustration which is reminding him of how beautiful his homeland is. It can also be seen as a promise, as if he was promising himself a reward in order to carry on with life struggle with a purpose. He repeats the same statement, almost as if he was trying to memorize it: â€Å"I shall return to loiter. I shall return to fiddle†¦Ã¢â‚¬ This helps to add a certain flow as the reader reads through the poem. It also makes the statement ‘I shall return’ become more alive and more promising to come to pass. It could be seen as him making himself a purpose for carrying on with life. He uses colour to describe the images in his homeland: â€Å"†¦like brown blade†¦Ã¢â‚¬ , â€Å"†¦the forest fires burn wafting their blue-black smoke to sapphire skies†¦Ã¢â‚¬ This allows the images to be physical and easier to picture. He probably used this technique to make the idea of his returning more realistic for him to be able to picture himself there. He stresses on how much he misses his homeland, even its disadvantages by beautifying them: â€Å"†¦at golden noon the forest fires burn wafting†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He uses this to show that his homeland’s bad views can be looked upon as exhibitions. This help to promote the idea of his returning even besides the negative aspects. He uses metaphors to describe his feelings for the New York: â€Å"†¦to ease my mind off long, long years of pain†¦Ã¢â‚¬ This technique portrays his feelings for New York in a way the reader can relate to. The structure of the text has a tremendous significance as it echoes the pattern of thoughts and feelings of the writer. It heads the reader to understand the message. The poem is written in a sonnet, which is important as a sonnet consists of two stanzas; an octave and a Sestet. The octave involves talking about the problems being faced, whilst the Sestet is about finding a solution to the problem: â€Å"I shall return again†¦Ã¢â‚¬ So in ‘I shall return’ he uses the idea of returning to his homeland as a solution to his problem. THE TROPICS OF NEW YORK The title ‘The tropics of New York’ suggests McKay evolving New York and turning it into his homeland. It could be said that he was missing home so much that he was starting to see visions of his homeland in New York. The title can also suggest Mckay getting used to the Yankees style of life and him finding positive aspects of their culture. He uses repetition and makes the rhythm comparable to that of an excited child at Christmas: â€Å"Bananas ripe and green and ginger-roots†¦and pears†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He uses this technique to illustrate the joy he had when he saw these fruits and vegetables. The excitement of the tone is only because the fruit reminds him of his homeland which just goes to show of how much he misses the place. In The Tropics of New York, he uses religious vocabulary to describe the landscape of his homeland: â€Å"†¦mystical blue skies. In benediction over nun-like hill†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He gives the landscape a significance, which suggests that he adores it. It also adds a sense of silence and peace to the landscape. He uses alliteration to describe his memories of his memories: â€Å"†¦of fruit trees laden by low †¦Ã¢â‚¬ , â€Å"†¦and dewy dawn†¦Ã¢â‚¬ This helps slow the pace down to help him emphasis the beauty of his homeland. It also adds a gentle sound and some resonance, which helps to produce a visual image of calm beauty. As these were memories, the qualities could not have been present in New York. He evolves senses in order to separate the three stanzas. In the first stanza, he uses the sense of taste and tells of the food he saw. He uses sight in the second stanza to describe what he was seeing and the sense of feeling in the third in order to show his emotions. This allows the reader to picture New York from different points of view. It also helps to convey his emotions in a way that the reader could relate to. He uses archaic syntax in the beginning of the third stanza to describe his emotions after seeing these fruits: â€Å"†¦I could no more gaze†¦Ã¢â‚¬ This helps to lead the calmness of the stanza. The calmness of the stanza can help evaluate how emotionally touched he was to see these fruits as he probably last saw them a long time ago. He uses a metaphor to describe how he misses his old homeland: â€Å"†¦hungry for the old familiar ways†¦Ã¢â‚¬ The metaphor signals a change from physical longing to emotional and spiritual longing. It shows of how desperate he is to go back to his country. Mckay uses a regular rhythm scheme (a/b/a/b). This helps to contain the emotion. The structure of the poem mirrors the process of seeing the fruit and wanting to eat it, whilst visualising the country it comes from to the spiritual way of life in that place. In conclusion, I found out that Mckay uses both poems to illustrate his feelings towards both places uses techniques such as alliteration, narrative voice, metaphors, vocabulary, structure of the poems etc. His overall feeling is that he misses home and has a great desire to return. He feels living in New York is very painful and he does not seem to want to get use to the its lifestyle: â€Å"†¦hungry for the old familiar ways†¦Ã¢â‚¬ How to cite How does Mackay express his feelings for the two cultures he belongs to?, Papers

These aspects include graphic, RAM, connectivity, optical drive, storage, and price. The three models of computers that were examined are the Hewlett Packard Compaq 6300 Pro Small Form Factor desktop Personal Computer, the Hewlett Packard Compaq 8300 Elite Small Form Factor Desktop Personal Computer, and the Hewlett Packard 21 All-In-One Workstation w/400W 90% Energy Efficient Chassis Personal Computer. On the three personal computers, starting with the Hewlett Packard Compaq 6300, the graphics were compared to determine which would provide the picture. According to Daniel Ibanez, a Hewlett Packard representative, the graphics on the Hewlett Packard Compaq 6300 model are â€Å"Integrated Intel  ® High Definition 4000 graphics,† the Hewlett Packard Compaq 8300 model graphics are â€Å"Advanced Micro Devices, Incorporated Radeon High Definition 6350 Graphics† and the Hewlett Packard 21 model graphics are NVIDIA Q100M Graphics. † The graphics of a computer are ultimately responsible for everything that is seen on the screen, (Ibanez, 2012. ) The next specification that was examined by management on the Hewlett Packard computer models were the RAM (random-access-memory) of each computer. According to Daniel Ibanez, Hewlett Packard representative, the Hewlett Packard 6300 model the RAM is listed as â€Å"4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz,† the Hewlett Packard 8300 model contains a RAM of â€Å"4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz,† and the Hewlett Packard 21 model contains a RAM of â€Å"4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Necc Unbuffered. † RAM is very important on a computer because the more random-access-memory on a personal computer, the less often the computer needs to load data from the hard drive, (Cross, 2010). After examining the RAM, the next specification that was examined was the connectivity of the computer. Again according to Mr. Ibanez, Hewlett Packard representative, the Hewlett Packard 6300 model connectivity is â€Å"Integrated Intel 825799 CM Gigabit Network connection,† the Hewlett Packard 8300 model connectivity is â€Å"Intel 82579 LM Gibe integrated network connection,† and the Hewlett Packard 21 model contains â€Å"Energy Star Enabled Configuration Connection† connectivity. Connectivity is an extremely important specification on a personal computer, because it helps download bigger files faster and makes the personal computer more efficient eliminating more downtime in work, (Cross, 2010). Optical Drive specifications were also compared and presented by Mr. Ibanez, Hewlett Packard representative. The Hewlett Packard 6300 model contains an optical drive of â€Å"Corel Win DVD ROXIO Creative Business 10 High Definition,† the Hewlett Packard 8300 model contains â€Å"USTD Tower Stand, SRS Premium Sound, Corel Win DVD ROXIO Creative Business 10 High Definition,† and the Hewlett Packard 21 model contains â€Å"8x DVD +/- RW DL Super Multi. † An optical drive is also one of the more important specifications to have in a business so you can burn DVDs of work orders and save important documents onto a disk if necessary or required, (Cross, 2010).

Opening Strategy (hook): Informative Key Word Outline: Laser Tattoo Removal Introduction Hook:It may have seemed like a good idea initially, but years, months or even maybe only a few hours later the regret is settling in and you are asking yourself â€Å"what was I thinking, getting a tattoo? † Maybe it’s he placement you are unhappy with, or possible the color or image, whatever it may be causing you to rethink your â€Å"brilliant† idea, you aren’t alone. According to WebMD it is estimated that close to 10% of the U. S. population has some sort of tattoo, and eventually as many as 50% of them want it removed. Lucky for that 50% of people, with the new laser tattoo removal techniques, doctors are able to help people of all ages rid themselves of something that the y no longer want on their bodies. I will now explain the history, process and side effects and results of laser tattoo removal.Thesis: Most of us know the process of getting a tattoo, but what we aren’t as familiar with is the process of getting a tattoo removed. I will explain the history, process and side effects and results of laser tattoo removal. Preview: †¢ How tattoos were removed before laser tattoo removal was invented †¢ How does laser tattoo removal work †¢ What are the side effects and results of tattoo removal Transition: To explore the long history of tattoo removal, I spoke with dermatologist Dr. Mark Taylor at the Gateway Aesthetic Institute. Body: I.Dr. Mark Taylor says that tattoo removal dates back to ancient Egyptian times; however in modern society, up until the last decade, tattoo removal was often painful and left unsightly scarring. A. The following tattoo removal processes took place before laser tattoo removal came around. 1. Cutting o ut the skin containing the tattoo ink- which sometimes is still done if the tattoo can not be treated with the laser. 2. Dermabrasion Salabrasion- sanding/sanding salting of the skin- Historically this is the most common way to remove a tattoo. The idea being to traumatize the skin and then applying irritants to draw out the tattoo ink. A rapidly spinning diamond fraise wheel or a wire brush 3. Laser vaporization-burning out the skin 4. Chemical peels B. Side affects of tattoo removal without a laser 1. Dermabrasion has a high risk of scarring and loss of normal skin pigment- Severely painful 2. Risk of infection 3. All methods are very painful Transition: Now let’s explore laser tattoo removal. Laser tattoo removal was initially performed with continuous wave length when it was first released on the market. It was then switched to a Q-Switched Laser (what is currently used), which became available in the 90’s. II. How does the laser actually remove tattoos A. The web site howstuffworks. com summarizes how the laser tattoo removal process works in simple terms. The article describes that the laser works by producing short pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment. 1. Laser Energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles 2.The particles are later cleaned up by the body’s natural immune process 3. Only pigment from the tattoo is targeted with the laser- The skin surrounding the tattoo is unharmed 4. On average, most tattoos can be removed in 5-15 clinic visits B. Although it’s called tattoo removal, completely removing a tattoo can be difficult. If you’ve placed that sweet verse of poetry on your neck or chest in black or red ink, you’re in luck. But the itty-bitty tweedy-bird tattoo on your foot or wrist in certain shades of green, purple or blue will be much more stubborn. . Varies with the type of tattoo, the col or of the ink, the density of the pigment, the size and depth of the tattoo, and the body’s reaction to the treatment. 2. Black ink is typically the easiest color to treat. Multi-colored tattoos, especially those with yellow and other unusual colors may be difficult to completely remove 3. Tattoos closer to the heart with increased blood supply, respond more quickly to treatment 4. If you are on the fence about saying so long to your ex-wives name on your shoulder blade, it may benefit you to wait a little longer.According to dermatologist Dr. Will Kirby and also guest star on LA Ink says, older tattoo’s are easier to remove than brand-new ones. â€Å"Some people get a tattoo at 10 in the morning and they want it removed by 11, but you’ve got to wait at least six weeks before your first laser treatment. † Transition: Now that we are familiar with how laser tattoo removal works, let’s discuss the million dollar question, â€Å"does it hurt†, as well as the pos-treatment considerations. III. Does laser tattoo removal hurt? A. According to Dr. Mark Taylor, the impact of the energy from the laser’s owerful pulse of light has been described as similar to getting hot specks of bacon greased on your skin or being snapped by a thin rubber band. The rapid pulses generated from the laser may feel different to each patient. â€Å"The unfortunate thing about tattoos is that both getting them and having them taken off can be uncomfortable. † B. To further decrease the pain, the physicians recommend one of the following options: 1. Topical anesthetic cream applied to the area an hour before treatment 2. Local anesthetic injected into the tattoo prior to treatmentC. What happens after laser removal is performed 1. Immediately following treatment, the tattoo will have a whitish appearance, develop some swelling, blistering, and may have pinpoint bleeding 2. Antibiotic ointment and a bandage are applied 3. The treated are a will take about two weeks to heal and will begin to fade 4. You can look forward getting the painful procedure done again in 4-8 weeks D. Typically the only real side effect’s to laser tattoo removal is incomplete removal of the tattoo as well as the high expense of the treatment Conclusion:You may now be asking yourself is getting a tattoo worth the money and hassle? It’s really up to you. Some people really enjoy their tattoos and keep them for life, whereas others might regret that they acted on impulse and didn’t think enough about it before they got one. Now you that you have an understanding of the tattoo removal process you may be able to make a more thought out decision, or in the case of you already having a tattoo you now know what goes in to getting it off! The Best Great Gatsby Timeline

The Best Great Gatsby Timeline SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Sometimes, even when you've carefully read a book and tried to follow all the intricacies of which character did what and when, you just can't quite put the whole thing together. That goes double for a novel likeThe Great Gatsby, which uses literary devices like flashbacks and flashforwards to explain the behavior of its characters in its present. But don't fret! In this article, I've taken all of the novel's events and rearranged them in straightforward, chronological order. This completeGreat Gatsby timeline allows you tosee exactly when all of the book's events took place, and also get individual chronologies for each major character. Why Make a Great GatsbyTimeline? There are several good reasons why a timeline that organizes the book's events is a useful tool. First, a timeline jettisons potentially confusing time-shifts. Even though the novel is told mostly chronologically, ithas several flashbacks and flashforwards. The most notable flashbacks revolve aroundJames Gatz's transformation into Jay Gatsby, and what happened between him and Daisy. Meanwhile, the flashforwards take us into Nick's present-day framing narrative, after his disenchanted return to the Midwest. Second, reordering all of these events in a clear chronology can help clarify the motivations and emotions behind character behavior.Putting Tom, Nick, and Gatsby’s activities side by side can help with compare/contrast assignments by reframing your thoughts about what they were each going through at a particular time. Finally, a warning.Watch out for other timelines out there on the web.I’ve found such mistakes as: Some timelines claim Gatsby was born in 1892 - but this is wrong. Fitzgerald gives enough dates, ages, and other details to accurately determine the right yearsfor the book’s events. Some timelines claim that Dan Cody died in 1910 - again, wrong. That Daisy and Gatsby first date occurred in August - nope, it’s October, which is important for the novel’s seasons motif. The Great Gatsby Timeline 1851 Nick Carraway's grandfather's brother starts the hardware business that his family owns. "the actual founder of my line was my grandfather's brother who came here in fifty-one, sent a substitute to the Civil War and started the wholesale hardware business that my father carries on today" (1.5) 1857 Dan Cody is born. The Carraways are something of a clan† (1.5) Tom Buchanan is born to a very prominent family in Chicago. (We know this because he is 30 during the summer when the novel takes place.) "Now he was a sturdy, straw haired man of thirty with a rather hard mouth and a supercilious manner." (1.19) 1899 Daisy Fay is born in Louisville, Kentucky. (We know this because she is 18 when she meets Gatsby in Louisville in 1917.) â€Å"Our white girlhood was passed together there. Our beautiful white†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (1.140) 1901 Jordan Baker is born in Louisville, Kentucky. (We know this because she says that Daisy is two years older.) "The largest of the banners and the largest of the lawns belonged to Daisy Fay's house. She was just eighteen, two years older than me, and by far the most popular of all the young girls in Louisville." (4.130) 1902 Dan Cody, Gatsby's mentor, buys his yacht the Tuolomee and starts sailing. He does this to get away from Ella Kaye, his estranged second wife. "The none too savory ramifications by which Ella Kaye, the newspaper woman, played Madame de Maintenon to his weakness and sent him to sea in a yacht, were common knowledge to the turgid journalism of 1902." (6.11) 1906 James Gatz works as a clam digger and salmon fisher on Lake Superior, and tries to go to St. Olaf Lutheran College in southern Minnesota before dropping outtwo weeks later unhappy to be working as a janitor to support himself. "For over a year he had been beating his way along the south shore of Lake Superior as a clam digger and a salmon fisher ... An instinct toward his future glory had led him, some months before, to the small Lutheran college of St. Olaf in southern Minnesota. He stayed there two weeks ... despising the janitor's work with which he was to pay his way through. Then he drifted back to Lake Superior" (6.8-10) 1907 James Gatz, 17 years old, meets Dan Cody in Little Girl Bay on Lake Superior and changes his name to Jay Gatsby. "James Gatz- that was really, or at least legally, his name. He had changed it at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed the beginning of his career- when he saw Dan Cody's yacht drop anchor over the most insidious flat on Lake Superior ... So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen-year-old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end." (6.6-6.7) â€Å"Cody was fifty years old then, a product of the Nevada silver fields, of the Yukon, of every rush for metal since Seventy-five. The transactions in Montana copper that made him many times a millionaire ... He had been coasting along all too hospitable shores for five years when he turned up as James Gatz's destiny at Little Girl Bay.† (6.11) 1907-1912 Gatsby sails the seas with Cody for five years. â€Å"He was employed in a vague personal capacity- while he remained with Cody he was in turn steward, mate, skipper, secretary, and even jailor, for Dan Cody [put] more and more trust in Gatsby ... The arrangement lasted five years during which the boat went three times around the continent.† (6.13) 1910 Myrtle marries George Wilson. (We know this because Wilson tells Michaelis that he and Myrtle have been married 12 years by the summer of 1922 when the novel takes place.) "I married him because I thought he was a gentleman," she said finally. "I thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasn't fit to lick my shoe†¦.The only crazy I was was when I married him. I knew right away I made a mistake.† (2.112-116) 1911 Myrtle and George Wilson move into the apartment above the garage in the valley of ashes. "They've been living over that garage for eleven years. And Tom's the first sweetie she ever had." (2.117) Nick Carraway and Tom Buchanan go to Yale University. (We know this because they graduate in 1915.) 1912 Dan Cody dies in Boston. Heleaves $25,000 to Gatsby, but Ella Kaye uses legal means to take away this inheritance. Gatsby is penniless but has learned polished manners and how the rich operate. 1914 World War I begins. 1915 Nick Carraway graduates from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and goes to fight in WWI. "I graduated from New Haven in 1915, just a quarter of a century after my father, and a little later I participated in that delayed Teutonic migration known as the Great War." (1.6) Tom Buchanan also graduates from Yale University. â€Å"one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven- a national figure in a way, one of those men who reach such an acute limited excellence at twenty-one that everything afterward savors of anti-climax. †¦ there were men at New Haven who had hated his guts† (1.16-20) October 1917 Gatsby is stationed at Camp Taylor in Louisville, where hemeets Daisy Fay (he is 27, she is 18). They are together for a month, and he is shocked by how much in love with her he falls. â€Å"He knew that Daisy was extraordinary ... He felt married to her, that was all.† (8.13) Jordan also meets Gatsby. "One October day in nineteen-seventeen-(said Jordan Baker that afternoon, sitting up very straight on a straight chair in the tea-garden at the Plaza Hotel) - I was walking ... to Daisy Fay's house ... she was sitting in it with a lieutenant I had never seen before ... The officer looked at Daisy while she was speaking, in a way that every young girl wants to be looked at sometime, and because it seemed romantic to me I have remembered the incident ever since. His name was Jay Gatsby" (4.129-133) Winter 1917-1918 Gatsby leaves for Europe to fight in WWI. Wild rumors were circulating about her- how her mother had found her packing her bag one winter night to go to New York and say goodbye to a soldier who was going overseas. (4.134) 1918 Jordan becomes a professional golfer. She is later mired in a cheating scandal, but nothing is proven. "That was nineteen-seventeen. By the next year I had a few beaux myself, and I began to play in tournaments" (4.134) September 1918 Gatsby fights with distinction in the Argonne Battle, and thenis promoted to Captain and then to Major. He also receives several medals. "He did extraordinarily well in the war. He was a captain before he went to the front and following the Argonne battles he got his majority and the command of the divisional machine guns." (8.17) 1919 After Armistice, Gatsby spends fivemonths at Oxford University in England, in a program for army officers. "It was in nineteen-nineteen, I only stayed five months. That's why I can't really call myself an Oxford man ... It was an opportunity they gave to some of the officers after the Armistice," he continued. "We could go to any of the universities in England or France."" (7.218-220) June 1919 Despite some reluctance, Daisy marries Tom Buchanan. â€Å"â€Å"Tell 'em all Daisy's change' her mine. Say 'Daisy's change' her mine!'." She began to cry- she cried and cried†¦Next day at five o'clock she married Tom Buchanan without so much as a shiver† (4.140-142) August 1919 Tom Buchanan has an affair with a chambermaid during the honeymoon. "That was in August ... Tom ran into a wagon on the Ventura road one night ... The girl who was with him ... was one of the chambermaids in the Santa Barbara Hotel." (4.143) October 1919 Meyer Wolfshiem fixes the 1919 World Series. â€Å"The idea staggered me †¦ if I had thought of it at all I would have thought of it as a thing that merely happened, the end of some inevitable chain. It never occurred to me that one man could start to play with the faith of fifty million people† (4.115) November 1919 Gatsby returns to Louisville while Daisy and Tom are on their multi-month honeymoon. â€Å"He stayed there a week, walking the streets where their footsteps had clicked together †¦ He stretched out his hand desperately as if to snatch only a wisp of air, to save a fragment of the spot that she had made lovely for him. But it was all going by too fast now for his blurred eyes and he knew that he had lost that part of it, the freshest and the best, forever.† (8.28-30) Gatsby goes to New York and asks his future partner, Meyer Wolfsheim, for a job. "I made him †¦ I raised him up out of nothing, right out of the gutter. I saw right away he was a fine appearing, gentlemanly young man, and ... I knew I could use him good. ... We were so thick like that in everything- " He held up two bulbous fingers "- always together." (9.85-87) January 1920 Prohibition goes into effect through the passage of the 18th Amendment, which outlawed most kinds of alcohol. Prohibition spurswidespreadunderground organized crime (represented by Meyer Wolfshiem and Gatsby in the novel). April 1920 Daisy gives birth to Pammy, and the Buchanans move to France. "The next April Daisy had her little girl and they went to France for a year. I saw them one spring in Cannes and later in and then they came back to Chicago to settle down." (4.144) 1921 The Buchanans move to Chicago, where Nick visits them for 2 days, then to East Egg on Long Island, New York. Spring 1922 Tom starts an affair with Myrtle Wilson. â€Å"When we came into the station he was next to me and his white shirt-front pressed against my arm- and so I told him I'd have to call a policeman, but he knew I lied. I was so excited that when I got into a taxi with him I didn't hardly know I wasn't getting into a subway train.† (2.120) June 1922 Nick decides to learn bond trading in New York. He rents a small house in West Egg, Long Island, next door to Gatsby’s mansion. Nick has lunch with the Buchanans (Daisy is his cousin), and meets Jordan Baker. Nick has a brief relationship with a woman from Jersey City. "I even had a short affair with a girl who lived in Jersey City and worked in the accounting department, but her brother began throwing mean looks in my direction so when she went on her vacation in July I let it blow quietly away." (3.155) July 2, 1922 Tom takes Nick to meet Myrtle. They go to a Manhattan apartment, to a small party that ends with Tom punching Myrtle in the face for talking about Daisy. (We know the exact date because Nick notes that it was two days before the 4th of July holiday.) July 1922 Nick is invited to one of Gatsby’s house parties and meets him. Also at the party is Owl-Eyes, the guest who enthuses about Gatsby’s library. â€Å"People were not invited- they went there. †¦ they conducted themselves according to the rules of behavior associated with amusement parks. Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all† (3.7) Nick starts a relationship with Jordan Baker. Gatsby takes Nick out to lunch, where Nick meets Meyer Wolfshiem, and where Gatsby meets Tom. Jordan tells Nick that Gatsby and Daisy had been in love five years before. Nick invites Daisy over for tea so that Gatsby can â€Å"drop by† and he and Daisy reconnect. August 1922 A reporter comes by to investigate the rumors about Gatsby. "It was a random shot, and yet the reporter's instinct was right. Gatsby's notoriety, spread about by the hundreds who had accepted his hospitality and so become authorities on his past, had increased all summer until he fell just short of being news. " (6.5) Tom Buchanan meets Gatsby when Tom stops by Gatsby’s in the middle of a horseback ride. "I went over to his house one Sunday afternoon. I hadn't been there two minutes when somebody brought Tom Buchanan in for a drink ... Tom and a man named Sloane and a pretty woman in a brown riding habit" (6.17-18) Tom and Daisy come to Gatsby’s next party, which Daisy hates. Gatsby and Daisy begin their affair; Gatsby fires his staff and stops his parties. "I hear you fired all your servants." "I wanted somebody who wouldn't gossip. Daisy comes over quite often- in the afternoons." So the whole caravansary had fallen in like a card house at the disapproval in her eyes." (7.13-15) Daisy invites Nick and Gatsby for lunch at her house. She and Gatsby plan to reveal their love to Tom, but instead in the unbearably hot day, the group decides to go to Manhattan to the Plaza Hotel. There, Gatsby reveals the affair, and Tom reveals that Gatsby’s money comes from crime. Daisy is unwilling to completely renounce Tom, which decimates Gatsby. Daisy decides to stay with Tom. ""Oh, you want too much!" she cried to Gatsby. "I love you now- isn't that enough? I can't help what's past." She began to sob helplessly. "I did love him once- but I loved you too." Gatsby's eyes opened and closed. "You loved me too?" he repeated." (7.264-266) On the way back from the hotel, Daisy, driving Gatsby’s car, runs over and kills Myrtle Wilson. That night, Tom convinces George Wilson that it was actually Gatsby who killed Myrtle. Also that night, Gatsby decides that he will take the blame for Myrtle’s death, and Nick and Jordan break up. The next day, Tom and Daisy skip town for good. Later that day, Wilson shoots and kills Gatsby and then himself. September 1922 The murder-suicide is mischaracterized as the actions of a deranged grieving husband, and there is no mention of the Buchanans or of Myrtle’s affair in the police report. Gatsby’s father, Henry Gatz comes to the funeral from Minnesota. â€Å"a solemn old man very helpless and dismayed, bundled up in a long cheap ulster against the warm September day. His eyes leaked continuously with excitement† (9.33) Nick can’t find anyone else to come to the funeral. Even Wolfshiem refuses to come. â€Å"Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead† (9.99) Owl-eyes is the only other person who comes to the funeral. October 1922 Nick hashes things out with Jordan. Nick runs into Tom in Manhattan, where Tom confesses to telling Wilson that Gatsby was driving the car that killed Myrtle. November 1922 Completely disillusioned and horrified, Nick moves back home to the Midwest. â€Å"West Egg especially still figures in my more fantastic dreams. I see it as a night scene by El Greco: a hundred houses, at once conventional and grotesque, crouching under a sullen, overhanging sky and a lustreless moon.† (9.126) 1924 Nick writes the storyabout Gatsby and that fateful summer - this story is the novel that we are reading. â€Å"After two years I remember the rest of that day, and that night and the next day, only as an endless drill of police and photographers and newspaper men in and out of Gatsby's front door. ... When I came back from the East last autumn I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever; I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction- Gatsby who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn.† (9.1-4) The whole novel is basically Nick's furious journaling about his formative summer. Stylistic analysis and history in art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Stylistic analysis and history in art - Essay Example Legon claims, â€Å"The Egyptian canon of art was metrological founded through the system of horizontal guidelines that established the canonical forms† (Legon Web). The most appealing nature of the image that looks Egyptian to me is the choice of colour. The colours used in the image are a true reflection of Egyptian artwork. â€Å"Cannon of art† refers to classification of art by early historians. This early classification still has its influence in the naming of today’s art. In the topic "Discrimination in the Arts in America," â€Å"Cannon of art† is present. The early historians in America supported hierarchies of race due to the alleged evidence from the book of Genesis chapter nine in the bible. Noah blessed his son, Shem who covered him of his nakedness when he was drunk and cursed Canaan, Japheth was blessed to expand. Christian fundamentalists believed in the three races, White representing Japheth who was to expand to other nations. They justified slavery of Africans on this and believed that the whites should take the highest positions that existed. The cannon of art for Americans had a background of racism, which many art historians represented in their work. They did this via colour since the three different races had three distinct colours; white, yellow, and black. My choice of a retablo is the painting of Virgin Mary by Frida Kahlo made in Mexico. Like most of the retablos made during the 18th century, the Virgin Mary retablo was made in honour of the Catholic saints (Castro-Sethness 21-23). Virgin Mary is one of the most honoured spiritual personalities in the Catholic Church in prehistoric times and even at present. The most important learning from the Virgin Mary retablo is that the people who existed in the period in which the retablo was made had a significant connection to the church (Nolan 15-20). Most notably, they valued the saints and therefore, preferred preserving their images in form

Key Areas Of The Marketing Environment Marketing Essay

Key Areas Of The Marketing Environment Marketing Essay This assignment emphasizes on relationship approach to explain the concept of marketing. With regard to service, the concept of marketing takes into consideration manufacturers service organizations as well as service operations. Traditionally marketing was considered as a function which includes expertise planning and implementation of marketing mix. However, when it comes to services, this function of marketing is not taken into consideration. Marketing with regard to service is more about relationships, like those involving one-on-one transactions or whose scope is narrowed, for example, marketing of breakfast cereal or soap. Other kind of relationships whose scope is wider consist of significant social interaction which are on-going as well as long lasting, for example, service offered by hospitality industry or financial providers. Next, this assignment investigates the term relationship strategy and its nature. A detailed comparison about marketing and organizational behavior, concerning functions of businesses as well as academic regulations, drawn from the relationship approach are argued in this assignment. Lastly, the assignment emphasizes on the importance of service culture and internal marketing in this challenging global market to meet the marketing aspect and organizational behavioral needs of any business. 1.2: Analyze the relationship between businesses vision, mission and marketing strategy For any organization, mission statement is the most important statement which directs the business to achieve its goal and built its name in the market. Mainly, this statement includes three most important aspects, namely, vision, mission and core values. Vision is a wider thought of what the company wants to accomplish in future. Mission is mainly concerned which what steps the company is going to undertake to accomplish the set vision and core value involves the behavior of the company and its member throughout the course of goal accomplishment. All these three aspects are essential to direct the business through the path of success accomplishment. After the company has created the mission statement, it is then important for it to set the goals, objectives and strategic or action plan/s. Goals usually involves targets which the company needs to complete in order to accomplish the vision. Objectives are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-framed) statements to accomplish companys goals. Strategic or action plans are the detailed executive plans which illustrate the ways in which goal and objective can be accomplished. 1.3: Evaluate the tools and techniques available for analysing key areas of the marketing environment and use them in realistic business situations To analyze the key areas of marketing environment, the businesses are now emphasizing on strategic philanthropy concept. This concept helps to develop and evaluate the marketing issues, illustrates the focus of the stakeholders, and examines the aspects that need to be considered while executing the business plan. Today companies are realizing the advantages of strategic philanthropy concept not only for the employees and the investors but also for the community as whole. Currently, the companies are also formalizing and combining philanthropic decisions with other strategic decisions related to the performance of the company. 21st century companies are more emphasizing on management of social marketing issues for the interest of essential stakeholders. 1.4: Examine the factors influencing consumer choice and behaviour In the current globalised market, there is an accelerating need for ethical choices as proved by most researches. However, not much has been printed about the decisions made by the ethical consumers and the impact of their decision making on marketing. Due to limited proven research work about ethical consumer choice, this assignment will highlight the outcomes of national survey conducted on large scale in UK on ethical consumers. Equation modeling and reliability analysis methods were use to study this most important and ignored area and also to investigate the essential factors influencing ethical consumer choice and their interconnectivity. Two sets of data was used to create decision making model and its cross validity was examined. This innovative model of ethical consumer choice and decision making showed remarkable improvement on consumers buying choice. Study results of this researched proved that the buying intentions of the consumers were highly influenced. The assignment, however, further discusses implications of these results on marketing practitioners. 1.5: Assess the role of market research in business decision-making Market research results frequently produce negative reactions to discontinuous new products (innovative products) that later become profitable for the innovating company. Famous examples such as the fax machine, the VCR and James Dysons bagels vacuum cleaner are often cited to support this view. Despite this, companies continue to seek the views of consumers on their new product ideas. The debate about the use of market research in the development of new products is long-standing and controversial. This paper reviews the literature in this area and examines the extent to which market research is justified and whether companies should sometimes ignore their customers. The paper offers a conceptual framework that may help companies to decide when market research findings may be helpful and when they may hinder the development of discontinuous new products. Amplification of assessment criteria 1.1 Examine the main contexts of marketing 1.1.1 Assess critically the role of marketing in business, e.g. the impact of marketing on society In todays time, marketing researchers and professionals are extremely interested in the value generated by marketing. Even though there is large number of research work on marketing, it is still unclear how the market value is interrelated with the interest of the marketing generators. Researchers further plan to examine how customer value and customer satisfaction are interconnected. This will help to lessen the uncertainty created around both the concepts. Both customer value and customer satisfaction are two different concepts in terms of theory and practical aspects. This assignment examines this along with highlighting whether customer value helps to predict the behavioral results in better way with compare to customer satisfaction, when it comes to business marketing. To address this issue, there are two different models generated and examined in a cross sectional survey with the purchasing management of a company. A direct influence of value on intention of purchasing manager is suggested by first model whereas the second model arbitrates the value with customer satisfaction. This research study proves that both customer value and customer satisfaction are two different concepts measured and conceptualized in different way, still are harmonizing with each other. 1.1.2 Demonstrate the contribution of marketing to business strategy, e.g. major contexts of marketing applications (consumer goods; business to business; services marketing) There can be no more important aspect of constructing an effective marketing strategy than understanding competitors and your own organizations competitive position. The techniques such as Porters Five Forces Model and a SWOT analysis have already been identified as ways in which an organization can assess aspects. 1.2 Analyze the relationship between businesses vision, mission and marketing strategy 1.2.1 Explain the relationship between businesses vision, mission and marketing strategy, e.g. developing a marketing strategy which supports the businesses corporate strategy A management team needs information about external environments to make sound strategic decisions. Environmental scanning is the process of gathering information about those external environments to inform decision-making. That information may come from a wide variety of sources. It is important to ensure that data gathering, interpretation/analysis and strategy formulation are seen as three separate stages of environmental scanning. Some organizations use the information they collect to construct different scenarios, which also contribute to their planning and prepare them for a flexible response. 1.2.2 Identify the key influences on shaping marketing strategy, e.g. competitor; capability and resources; target customers; external environment. A great deal of attention has been devoted to the concept of market orientation in marketing academe and practice. The reader is provided with eight possible sources of critical success factors including analysis, analysis of industry structure, industry/business experts, analysis of competition, and analysis of dominant firm in the industry, company assessment, temporal/intuitive factors and PIMS results. Examples of CSFs from various sources are provided and a scheme by which the reader can assess the relative importance of identified CSFs is presented. 1.3.2 Demonstrate the use of the main tools and techniques available for analysing key areas of the marketing environment, e.g. scenario planning The methodological tools and techniques that analysts use to assess the evolving Innovation, Science and Technology-related (IST) factors impacting their enterprises competitiveness and strategic environment. Studies generally show that a limited set of conceptual tools are regularly utilized by analysts in some enterprises; nevertheless, they are perceived only to demonstrate mixed success levels in meeting planning or decision-oriented needs. A performance gap exists between organizational needs to proactively address IST factors impacting their organizations competitiveness and the insights actually delivered to decision-makers by existing methods and the analysts who employ them. In this paper, the author defines the scope of IST analytical applications, identifies the conceptual tools and techniques used, applies a model for assessing the utility of the tools, describes the reasons why the tools do not deliver what is needed, and makes recommendations for improving the use of IS T-focused analysis tools. 1.4 Examine the factors influencing consumer choice and behaviour 1.4.1 Analyze the process of consumer product acquisition and consumer choice, e.g. models of consumer buying behaviour; impact of memory, perception and learning on consumer choice The ways in which consumers make choices are clearly of interest to those involved in marketing. Consumer behaviour includes elements which are rational and elements which are emotional. However, the process involved in making a choice and buying decision can be analyzed and represented in a step-by-step framework. This section examines that process and the underlying factors which determine consumer behaviour. 1.4.2 Analyze the factors which influence consumer behaviour, e.g. impact of personality, motivation, opinions, attitudes and values on consumer behaviour; role of reference groups on consumption behaviour In the field tourism progress and planning, the decision making process is highly multifaceted because companies and communities have to combat with economic, social and environmental aspects of greater development. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be considered as an essential tool of methods and technologies of high applicability to provide for the attainment of greater tourism development. To investigate conflict, Spatial (environmental) data can be utilized which examines competition, explores influence on and helps in making decision. The impact assessment and simulation is highly significant for the development of tourism, and GIS can a role in terms of the environmental audit, exploring the suitability of sites for the planned developments 1.5 Assess the role of market research in business decision-making 1.5.1 Differentiate between market research and marketing research, e.g. their roles in determining structural characteristics and understanding marketing strategy decisions Even when there is increasing talks on international standardization versus customization, to empirical intuitions existing fragmented light to deliver. On the basis of an integrated analysis of 36 studies revolving around outcomes of standardization / adaptation, his past, and performance, this flow has been found to be characterized by non-significant, contradictory, and to a certain level, the results disconcerting related to the concepts inappropriate pictures, poor design and poor analytical methods. The main termination arising from this analysis is that if you standardize or adapt to accomplish better business performance will fundamentally based on the totality of the conditions in which a company is faced with a scrupulous foreign policy of a specific time period. 1.5.2 Analyze the contribution of market research to the decision-making processes of a business, e.g. the role of marketing information systems; the importance of competitive intelligence This paper reports case study of an inter-organizational (IOS) of Cisco and Xiao Tong in China. Other sources of are company documents and publicly available background The study examines the benefits of the IOS for both corporations. The also reveals seven critical success factors for the IOS, namely intensive stimulation, shared vision, cross-organizational implementation team, high integration with internal, inter-organizational re-engineering, advanced legacy and infrastructure and shared industry standard. Outcome 02: Know how to build marketing strategy 2.1 Analyze critically how strategic market analysis, marketing goals and marketing actions influence marketing strategy After designing core values, vision, mission, you need goals and objectives that will help to accomplish your vision. Objectives The objectives are broad statements of what you want. Therefore they should be included in your vision. You should look into the mission, as you will be involved to realize your vision. Examples of business objectives: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Improving profitability à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Increasing the competence à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ capture a larger market share à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ give improved customer service à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Advance employee training à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ An objective should accomplish below given criteria: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Good: Is it fitting with the vision and mission? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Acceptable: Adjusts the values à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹of the company and its employees? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Clarity: Is it easy to understand and easy to explain? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Flexible: can be adjusted and modified as needed? Ensure the objectives are paying attention on the significant aspects of the business. Do not use too many objectives or else you mind lose your concentration. Even the design of your objectives do not conflict and get in the way with each other. Demonstrate how an over-all view on the strategic position of businesses and the understanding of their competitors impact on their marketing strategy Here are AgVA strategies, goals, objectives and action plan. It should be considered that the strategy is a sequence of techniques to use mission is to accomplish the vision. The objectives are statements of what I required to be done to execute the strategy. The objectives are explicit milestones to achieve the goal. The milestones can be accomplished with the action plans which include specific actions to be taken. Milestones along the road to achieving your goals. Examples of the companys goals are: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ at least a 20% after-tax rate of return on our investment in equity to earn during the next fiscal year à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ the market share of 10 per cent increase over the next three years. Reduce operating costs by 15 percent over the next two years, improving the efficiency of the production process. The time of the call-back to reduce the investigation of the client and not more than four hours. The goals must meet the following criteria: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Measurable: What will happen and when? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Appropriate: apply it as a measure to reach the goal? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Feasible: It is possible to achieve? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Commitment: People are committed to achieving this goal? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Properties are the people responsible for achieving the objective included in the definition of the target. 2.4: Demonstrate how marketing strategies contribute to sustainable competitive advantages. Potential conversation with the results of the research is actually applied in the study Apply the main steps of marketing planning in practical business situations à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ mission statement (or define the mission of the company) has an impact on all the planning throughout the organization, because it is a statement of the companys overall business philosophy. Normally, a set of guidelines, rather than something that is expressed in quantitative terms hard and fast. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Situation analysis involves assessing the internal and external factors that influence the planning process and asks the question: Where are we?. This means that the research and analysis of all the information that has an impact on the organization and its operations, internal factors such as individual departmental corporate resources, external factors such as the current political events may interfere with the activities of the company. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ organizational goals requires a management company to offer guidance on how the company to fulfill its mission, and it makes it clear that the company wants to be. This, in contrast to the mission, should be expressed in quantitative terms available. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ strategies to achieve these objectives, concrete ideas on the achievement of corporate goals and relate to choose the way in which the mission is accomplished. 2.1 Analyze critically how strategic market analysis, marketing goals and marketing actions influence marketing strategy 2.1.1 Evaluate the key influences on strategic marketing planning, e.g. analysing competitors; identifying strategic marketing goals. The creation of a marketing strategy inevitably takes place in a strategic context which is a mixture of internal and external factors. Because of this, it is essential to have a clear understanding of that context before the marketing strategy is constructed. A systematic approach to acquiring that understanding helps to ensure that it is well informed and covers all the relevant factors. 2.2 Demonstrate how an over-all view on the strategic position of businesses and the understanding of their competitors impact on their marketing strategy 2.2.1 Explain the importance of competitors, e.g. key issues when analyzing a businesss competitors Competitive analysis and strategic evaluation of the strongly corrugated and corrugated SWAK of current and potential competitors. This analysis provides both an offensive and defensive strategic context to identify opportunities and threats. Profiling an average of all relevant sources of competitor analysis in a framework in support of the efficient and effective strategy formulation, implementation, monitoring and adjustment. analysis is an essential part of the corporate strategy. It is argued that most companies are not this type of analysis systematically enough to carry. On the contrary, many companies are working on what is called informal impressions, assumptions and intuition by goodies information about competitors every manager continually receive. As a result, the traditional sites of the area scanned many companies to the risk of dangerous competitive blind areas due to a lack of robust competitor analysis. Demonstrating the value of information about competitors, such examples of business use to answer questions which provides information on five main competitors Management for Impact means that that is what is needed to respond to changing conditions and greater understanding by the adaptation of the project so it will be more likely to achieve its expected impact such changes may result in minor changes to the assets or major strategic reviews .. Each project is managed to be impacted by its own set of limitations. hold the internal and external constraints will help you to have realistic expectations of what can be achieved and set. 2.3 Analyze critically the links between growth strategies and the main types of strategic marketing objectives 2.3.1 Explain the main types of strategic marketing objective, e.g. niche, hold, harvesting and divest objectives The purpose of strategic marketing analysis is to help managers understand the nature of the industry, the way firms behave competitively within the industry, and how competition is generally undertaken. From this information it becomes easier to determinate exactly what the marketing goals should be. There are several types of strategic objective but four main ones are considered here. These are niche, hold, harvest, and divest goals and are considerable briefly. However the section that follows considers a further objective, namely growth. 2.3.2 Demonstrate the links between growth as an objective and other key strategic marketing objectives, e.g. examine types of growth (intensive, integrative, diversified) in relation to other to strategic marketing objectives When an organization adopts a diversification strategy they are essentially moving outside current, known areas of expertise. Through diversification they begin to work with new products, in new markets, and this brings new risks. Diversification for single-product organizations is an important development for two main reasons. First, risk becomes spread across two or more markets, and secondly, organizational resources such as management, marketing, finance, production, and operations can be used more effectively and efficiently when deployed across more than one product or market. Horizontal diversification occurs when products that are technologically unrelated to The established product range are introduced to the same market. Concentric diversification occurs when products that are technologically related to the Current portfolio is introduced to new markets. Conglomerate diversification occurs when products that is technologically unrelated To the current portfolio are introduced to new markets. 2.4 Demonstrate how marketing strategies contribute to sustainable competitive advantage 2.4.1 Identify the conditions necessary for sustained competitive advantage, e.g. Porters ideas for sustainability He described a category scheme consisting of three general types of strategies that are commonly used by companies to achieve competitive advantage and maintain. These three generic strategies are defined along two dimensions: strategic scope and strategic strength. Strategic scope is a demand-side dimension (Michael E. Porter was originally an engineer, then an economist before he specialized in strategy) and look at the size and composition of the market you intend to target. Strategic strength is a supply-side dimension and look at the strength or core competency of the company. In particular, he has two powers which he felt was most important: product differentiation and product cost (effectiveness) identified. 2.4.2 Assess how different strategies contribute to competitive advantage, e.g. key positions that a business can adopt (cost leadership, differentiation and focus strategies) and their impact in achieving competitive advantage Differentiate their products in a way to compete successfully. Examples of successful use of a differentiation strategy are Hero Honda, Asian Paints, HLL, Nike Sneakers, By-Pastor, Apple Computer, and Mercedes-Benz. Differentiation that is tuned when the target segment is not sensitive to price, the market is competitive or saturated, customers have very specific requirements that may be under-served, and the company has resources and unique features that allow you to these needs in a response mode that are difficult to copy. These include patents or other rights of intellectual property (IP), the only technical expertise (eg Apples ability to design or animation prowess PEER), talented employees (for example, a champion sports team or a company of merchants Star brokerage), or innovative processes. Successful brand management is only observed even when the physical product is the same competitors. In this way, Chiquita was able to banana brand Starbucks coffee could be seen, and cou ld sneakers Nike brand. Fashion designers are heavily dependent on this form of image difference. 2.5 Apply the main steps of marketing planning in practical business situations 2.5.1 Demonstrate the process of marketing planning in a business context, e.g. devise outline marketing plans to meet the needs of different sizes and types of business The assignment gives few guidelines, examples, methods, tools, and the procedure to write a business plan that generates effluent outcomes. There is also online guidance available which are not chargeable and which demonstrates ways in which marketing strategy can be generated or a company to write a basic business plan or a plan related to sales by making use of freely available templates, examples and tools of how specific the statement separately and theories and techniques for marketing strategy and marketing planning, consisting of tools and guidelines for advertising, press, public relations (PR), and media relations, generation of sales through inquiries , advertising copywriting, internet and web marketing, offers, and so on. There is an in-depth information available about sales planning and selling based on current market situations. Outcome 03: Understand the concept and role of market segmentation and positioning Differentiate between market segmentation and product differentiation A small business can differentiate its product using marketing techniques, by physically changing the product or by changing the price. Using marketing, you can create a brand or image in the mind of consumers by pointing out the difference between your product and those of your competitors. For example, your advertising can show that while your product may cost the same as your competitors, it lasts longer, making it less expensive to use. If you sell tennis shoes, you can reinforce the toes, making it a longer-lasting shoe that appeals to frequent players who wear out their shoes. Lowering or raising the price of a product differentiates you from your competition. Because consumers have different needs, even when shopping for the same product, its important to know who is buying your product. This will help you plan your marketing, product development and pricing. You can sell a higher-priced version of your product with extra features in specialty stores to attract young, affluent singles, and sell another version with fewer features at a lower cost to young families or seniors. You can sell one version of your product to consumers, and another to businesses. 3.2 Compare and contrast different targeting approaches Business plans come in all shapes and sizes. Pragmatism is essential. Ensure your plan shows what your business needs it to show. Essentially your plan is a spreadsheet of numbers with supporting narrative, explaining how the numbers are to be achieved. A plan should show all the activities and resources in terms of revenues and costs, which together hopefully produce a profit at the end of the trading year. The level of detail and complexity depends on the size and part of the business that the plan concerns. Your business plan, which deals with all aspects of the resource and management of the business (or your part of the business), will include many decisions and factors fed in from the marketing process. It will state sales and profitability targets by activity. In a marketing plan there may also be references to image and reputation, and to public relations. All of these issues require thought and planning if they are to result in improvement, and particularly increasing number s of customers and revenue growth. You would normally describe and provide financial justification for the means of achieving these things, together with customer satisfaction improvement. Above all a plan needs to be based on actions cost-effective and profitable cause and effect; inputs required to achieved required outputs, analyses, identifie

Computers in the Classroom :: Technology Technological Essays Education

Computers in the Classroom Computers are being used in classrooms all over the country. Children have access to a computer while at home or at school. However, is the technology being channeled through computers being depended upon too much? Are they going to take over the role of the teacher as an educator? Many educators are asking these questions regarding the education of their students. Computers affect the students and teachers in both positive and negative ways. In this paper I am going to discuss the benefits and downfalls of computers in the classroom. In just five years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of computers being used. Computers are virtually in every home, school and library. People can access facts and ideas that they were never able to before and can also do many things that were out of reach and unimaginable. In 1995, according to the Census Bureau of the United States, fifty percent of schools had access to the internet but by 2000, the numbers rose to ninety-eight percent. In 1995, only eight percent of classrooms had access to the internet and by 2000, seventy seven percent of classrooms had access to the internet. Teachers have taken advantage of the accessibility and have begun to include the computers and the internet into their lessons everyday. In 1999, of all public elementary schools, fifty six percent of teachers were using the internet to have their students to get more practice in certain areas and producing reports and projects. However, is using the computer beneficial to the teacher and the students? With the internet being so available, students are given the opportunity to be linked with the outside world that they may never have otherwise experienced. Interactive games and simulations can now be found that give students a valuable visual representation of a place, how something works, or an experiment. Also, students can now take what the teachers have taught them in class and practice their skills and stuffy their facts on the computer. With this convenience, students are now performing better on standardized tests than ever before because they are able to practice the subjects in a fun way. [1] Student’s research will also change because instead of using books for references, students will use the internet that does not always contain as many reliable sources. A student with access to the internet is often times more eager to learn and does further research on a topic that interests them because it is within reach in seconds.
